Subrata Paul's performances in the Hero Indian Super League so far, have been turning heads. The Arjuna Awardee has breathed fresh air into his already decorated career and is having arguably his best ISL season ever. Joining the Highlanders this season to complement a strong goal-keeping setup including the likes of Rehenesh TP and Welligton De Lima Gomes, Paul has been praised by pundits and critics alike over the course of the six games this season.
But "Spiderman" as he is fondly called, remains humble, "I forget about my last game very quickly. I try and focus on the task at hand. I believe in the words of Swami Vivekananda: Keep working hard without expecting the fruits of your labour. It has helped me so far in my career."
Currently leading the way as the top contender for the Golden glove award, Paul's heroics have not gone unnoticed by his very own team-mates. "Misthuda has been in terrific form. In the game against Goa, one of the saves he pulled off was almost improbable. It does give us defenders a lot of confidence to have him behind us, speaking to us, motivating us and saving us when we fail on occasions," says Shouvik Ghosh, NorthEast United FC's full back.
Disciplined to the highest extent, Paul is a fabulous role model for the younger Indian boys in the team. Constantly guiding them on diet related issues and on field tactics, Subrata has successfully donned the mantle of a senior statesmen in the team. "I try to teach them what I know. I try and tell them to not make the same mistakes that I made over the course over my career. It is my duty to guide them and ensure that they are on the right track."
Whatever happens over the course of the season, the Highlanders will be sure to remember the many wonderful moments that Subrata has provided and will be sure to provide over the course of NorthEast United FC's campaign.
