North East United FC have kick started their preparations in Guwahati for the 2017-18 season of the Hero Indian Super League 2017-18.
This year, for the first time in the HISL, the Highlanders will play an exhibition match in Imphal, Manipur against the most popular team in the region. 22nd October will be historic day when North East United FC will lock horns with newly promoted I-League club Neroca FC for a Pre-Season friendly match at the Khuman Lampak Main Stadium in Manipur.
John Abraham, Club owner, has stated, “We are trying as much to bring football across each corner of the eight states we represent. Its important that all eight states come together to celebrate sport, which is such a positive, unifying sport.”
The final leg of the preparation will see the North East United squad travel to Turkey for a 10-day camp in Turkey. Coach Joao De Deus and his team will train at Antalya in Turkey and are expected to a play 4-5 preparatory matches against competitive Turkish teams.
Coach Joao De Deus who has been developing the curriculum for the NEUFC Centre of Excellence in Shillong for over a month now, expressed his views about the preseason, “It’s great to have all the players arrive and begin full-fledged training. I look forward to arduous preparations in India and Turkey. This will ensure we get fully prepared for the HISL League ahead of us.”
